What destination will you choose is this summer vacation which is about to begin?  In this article we give you a range of options to appreciate Catalonia's beauty.

Likewise, we know that a important portion of the people who choose will travel to the rest of the Spain or abroad. We are very happy: to do a pleasant trip to a destination in the rest of Spain is great! Also to choose a destinitation abroad could be an exciting experience.

Catalonia has an area of 31,930km2 and a population of about 7.5 million inhabitants. What are its natural hightlights and its main cities? 500 km of Mediterranean coast with singular places like the 'Cap de Creus' or the 'Costa Daurada'...you hate the sea? No problem! In the north we have the Pyrenees as a large mountain range full of unforgettable places in it is the 'Pica d'Estats', the highest mountain in Catalonia with its 3,143 meters, the longest river that runs through Catalan territory is the 'Segre' of 265 km. Although the Ebro in the south gives special character to the inhabitants of its basin and puts the finishing touch to Catalonia with its spectacular 'Delta'.

Now we will talking about the main cities: the capital of Catalonia is Barcelona. The largest city in the Principality lived a turning point thanks to host the 1992 Olympic Games. Thus, 25 years later it was the fifth most visited European city according to wordatlas (on a world scale several rankings place it in the top 30). Now Barcelona has opened a new chapter: from a tourist city it struggles to become a technological "hub". Barcelona has a Metropolitan Area of 36 municipalities that concentrates slightly less than half of the population and represents 85% of the Catalan GDP.

We begin to travel the rest of Catalonia through Tarragona (Tarraco in Latin) which was one of the two capitals of Roman Hispania. This town bordering the sea has its Roman amphitheater very well preserved. A rich contrast with the previous city is the singularly colorful Girona with its Jewish old district and in the interior there is Lleida with its emblematic Cathedral 'Seu Vella'.

All of this makes up a small but diverse territory in terms of climates and monuments:  Mediterranean on the coast, inland in the province of Lleida and high mountain near the Pyrenees. As for art, it embraces everything from Romanesque to Modernism. Below we list several notable buildings such as: the 'Sagrada Familia', the 'Pedrera', 'Montserrat', 'Poblet', the Old Headquarters of Lleida, 'Sant Climent' de Taüll, the aforementioned Roman amphitheatre of Tarragona, the Cathedral of Girona, the 'Pont del diable' between Catellbisbal and Martorell, the Besalú bridge  or the Montblanc castle. To sum up, Catalonia is much more than Barcelona... but without its capital nothing would be the same.

We hope you will find the suitable trip for you.
